FAQs
I use a sharpening steel. Is that enough?
A steel straightens the edge, which helps between sharpenings. It doesn’t remove any metal, so it can’t put a new edge on a blunt knife.
Are cheap knives worth sharpening?
Yes. Most inexpensive knives take a good edge and hold it well.
Can knives go in the dishwasher?
Better not. The heat, detergent and knocking about corrode and blunt them quickly, even ones labelled dishwasher safe.
Why does it matter if a knife is blunt?
A blunt knife needs more force and is more likely to slip off the food and into your hand.
